The asset We St 1 and possesses in respect to its tourist attractions mignt well be made more of, especially at a time like the present, when New Zealanders, because of the prevailing stringent conditions, are more likely to take their holidays within the Domion rather than abroad. Westland is a natural playground, because its cardinal features of bush and mountain scenery are so distinctive from most of the tourist resorts. No where else in New Zealand is there such a. wealth of forest in such close juxtapositon to the mountain, glacier and lake attractions which nature lias beautified with such lavish colouring. To the city dweller; to the farmer of the Plains; to the denizen of the north, here is a district where something entirely different is to be seen. And to all t*e resorts there are the beat of roads. Visiting the lakes, moto’ing south, one of the best surfaced roads to he wished for, is there for the motorist. Places once distant are now very close. It was. at one time, something of an expedition to prepare for a south trip. Now, the journey to the glaciers may be covered in a few hours, and those pressed for time may travel there and back in the daylight of one day. Probably manv local people are guilty of not having made the south trTn. Those folk have missed a great chal is not knowing their own country, and here is the season of the year when they should make amends. The traveller is well catered for all along the southern route, and at both glaciers there is accommodation equal to any in the Dominion. There is no excuse why more is not known about Westland resorts, for they justify the fullest pub-

licity and after that the greatest patronage tlie people of the Dominion can contribute.
