The Otago Cricket Association has decided to oppose the suggested amendment to the Plunket Shield rules by which umpires would be appointed by agreement between the competing associations and any association would have the right to nominate a particular umpire.
Regarding the laws of the game, the association resolved to advise tire council that among the laws which it had been asked to approve was one v *Jcli was held by the Australian authorities to he no law at all. One of the proposed laws stilted that a batsman could not be given out if, in snicking a ball, on to his pad, lie did not deflect- its H.iglit. This was said to have been merely an English experiment that Had pever become law. Similarly, on the grounds that a bastman could not be given out Unv if he had played a ball, it was held that it was not right to give a man out if he touched a ball on to Ids leg, even if it would have hit the wicket but for his log. RECORD SCORING. M'CABE STRIKES OUT. SYDNEY, October 28. Playing for Kippax’s team jagainst Paddington in a charity match, Al’Caln* scored 107 in fifty-seven minutes. He hit 38 in one over, including five sixers. Kippax made 01 and Bradman 6G.
