CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE. WELLINGTON, October 23. 'l’he Associated Chambers of Commerce to-day adopted a resolution noting with approval that tlie National Government had introduced legislation for compulsory reducing the rate of mortgage, interest. '1 he Conference was of the-opinion that a voluntary reduction in interest rates was so vital to the farming community and was fast becoming general and regret was expressed thait the Government’s lending departments have not met the exigencies of the situation in the same generous manner as was met by private lenders. The motion is substituted for a remit adopted yesterday, is to be forwarded immediately to the Premier. A motion which came up as am amendment was carried expressing appreciation of the able and successful work of the Empire Marketing Board in advertising in Great Britain the merit of New Zealand produce particularly butter, and requesting Government to convey appreciation to the Board.
Recommendations were- submitted by a. Committee set up to frame a suitable resolution on the question l of unemployment and carried without discussion.
