RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22nd. Tho Orpheus Musical Club will supply the evening’s programme at IYA. A feature on the programme will be incidental music from “Monsieur Beaucaire.” The soloists wifi be Mrs L. E. Lambert (contralto) and Mrs Rewa Hopwell (soprano). Mr Harry Woolley will play pianoforte items, and there will be solos by Mr Will Henderson (piccolo) and Mr Reg. Lavies (cornet). At 2YA a concert in commemoration of the Batti'e of Trafalgar will be given by the Port Nicholson Silver Band and 2YA artists. The band will be heard in a very fine programme of selections and marches. A feature of the programme will be two numbers by Mr Clement May, eminent English elocutionist, “Ballad of the Clamperdown” and “The Old Superb.” The vocal portion will be in the hands of The Serenaders Male Quartet. They will be heard in a full programme of nautical songs. The lecturer on 3YA’s International Programme will be Mr R. W. Laing, iM.A. M.Sc., of Canterbury College. He will speak on “The Political Situation in Germany.” Silent day at 4YA. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23rd. This evening’s studio concert, at IYA will be provided by the Jubilee Institute for the Blind. Every year these young people, although afflicted with loss of sight, g.ve excellent concerts from the station. They have a small band, jazz band, school choir and several excellent soloists, combining to give a programme that should appeal to listeners. The Jubilee Institute is doing excellent work for the blind of (New Zealand, and one of the major activities is a study of music.
The concert from 2YA will be of a variety nature. Mr Reg. Blow (baritone) ] wi<i) sing “Trooper Johnny Ludlow,” “Absept," “Crown of the Yeai” and ‘‘Tommy Lad.” Miss Mabel Dyer (contralto) and Mr Edgar Swain (tenor) wall also be heard in solos and duets. Two humorous items will be given by Mr Leu Ashton, and the Or-ohestrina and Mrs Mildred Kenny’s Guitar Trio will entertain with fight popular airs. 3YA’s programme will be of a mscedaneous nature, contributed by the Valencia Quartet (Miss. Lucy Fullwood, Miss Jean Johnson, Mr T. G. Rogers and eOtlr E. J. Johnson), Miss Maisie Ottey (piano novelty artiste) and the Studio Octet under Mr Harold Beck. A diversified programme will be- sent over the air from 4YA, there being piano-accordeon solos, cornet solos, and dulcitone numbers on- the instrumental side, and tenor, contralto, and bassbaritone on 'the vocal side, supported by the populav humorist, Mr James Paterson. A new artist wifi appear, in the person of Miss Doreen Sheehy. Of considerable interest to listeners should be the presentation of dulcitone solos by Mr Thos. J. Kirk-Burnnand. Mr KirkBurnnand will play on this instrument such well known and popular airs as .••Bells of St. Mary’s,” "The First Noel,” and “M nuet” (by Paderewski), “Oh Dem Oolden Slippers,” “Steal Away,” “0, Susanna” and "Aloha Oe.” The dulcitone ns a beautiful instrument for broadcasting purposes, and the presentation this evening will have the added interest of being a novelty.
