SYDNEY’S “NEW GUARD.”

THE LEADER'S BOAST. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, October 21. Colonel Erie Campbell, the leader o f the “New Guard,” who was the guest of honour at the Sydney Milieus Club’s luncheon to-day, said: “If volunteers will man the idle ships the “New Guard” will deal with basher gangs, and if volunteers cannot lie obtained, then the “New Guard” wiL supply sufficient men to enable the silljis to sail. He added: “J intend interviewing the shipowners •’ this afternoon to obtain their unqualified assurance that any men who volunteer will receive continuity of employment at all costs. The “New Gnurd” will deal with the slaughtenn.n in the' same fashion and make no mistake will do it very definitely!” He added: The “New Guard” is a royal body, consisting of tens of thousands, handed together cn military lines, to resist any attempt to Sovietise this State.” Mr Campbell was cheered vociferously by the influential gathering of business men and prominent public men present. PROTECTION OF NON-UNIONISTS. SYDNEY, October 21. Regarding the “New Guard” Major-Campbell announced this evening that the'shipowners had. given an assurance that they would look after any men who volunteered to work the ships. They, however, would await the outcome of the Seamen’s Union meeting to-morrow before calling for volunteers.
