PARLIAMENTARY

THE HOUSE. fRy Telegraph—Ter Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 21. In the House of Representatives yesterday, the Native Land Bill was reported from the Native Affairs Committee with amendments. Native Purposes Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Native Affairs Committee. Mr Hamilton moved the committal of the Trading Coupons Bill. Some members opposed the measure contending there was no demand on the part of consumers for legislation of the nature. A majority of the members supported the Bill declaring than the trading coupon system was damaging to small shopkeepers. The passage of the measure would ensure better quality goods at a lower price to the consumers. A number of members urged that the scope of the Bill should be widened to prohibit the gift system as well. The motion to commit the Bill was adopted by 57 to 5. When the Bill was ,in committee, Mr Harris moved an. amendment to the main clause for the purpose of giv. ing a purchaser the option of taking goods of equivalent value instead ol cash, when coupons, were being ■ redeemed. This was defeated by 47 to d and the clause was nassed; Progress was reported, when the House rose at iQ.SO p.m.
