THEFT CHARGE. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) WESTPORT, October 18. Frederick Theobald, who for many years was Secretary of the Stockton Medical Association, was conveyed •from Granity, under arrest, to Westport, where he was charged with the embezzlement of £149 14s, funds of that organisation. T.. R. Fox, J.P., was on the bench. After formal evidence had been given, a remand to October 21st was granted. Bail self in £IOO and one surety of £IOO was allowJ .*• ■

PALMERSTON NORTH, Oct. 19, At the Magistrate’s Court, Leo Sim of Hiiriatangi was fined £SO sterling for having in his possession for sale or distribution, books or pamphlets which advocated violence, or expressed seditious intention. Default; Was fixed at three months. , I ■ FOUR. MONTHS HARD. CHRISTCHURCH, October 19. A former organiser of the unemployed workers movement, Herbert rxtwdn Barnsley, (51), was sentenced to four months hard labour by Air Mosley S.AI. in the Afagistrate’s Court this morning. Barnsley appeared on remand to answer a. charge of failing to comply with the terms of his release on. .probation. At Ins own -request, Barnsley was sentenced on the. original charge of committing theft by fraudulently, while acting as accountant, failing w account for £l9 to John Gibbs of Imnnevirke on June 16th., 1930 and was placed on probation for twelve months.
