WESTLAND RACING CLUB

16th OCTOBER, 1931. 'l'lie general committee of the above Club met last evening at 8.30 o’clock. Present Messrs W. E. Williams (President), E. McGregor, H. Newman, J. J. Mclntosh, Senr., J. J. Mclntosh Jmir., H. Rutland, J. Peake, C. J. .>eiU.,s, H. T. Parry, A. W. Yariall and D. J. Evans. The minutes of previous meeting confirmed and outward correspondence approved.

The following Club officials were then appointed : , Patrons : T. E. Y. Seddon Esq., W. E. Williams, Esq. President, Mr Williams, intimated his intention to retire from the position and asked the members to accept his resignation. He very reluctantly made this decision but after a long course of office and calls of health business he he could not fulfil the duties as well as previously and he sincerely thanked nfeinbers for assistance extended to him during their years of good service in the best interests of the Club. Mr J. J. Mclntosh -Senr., stated tha committee were sorry to hear of Mr William’s decision to vacate the position he had so ably filled for years and trusted as a member to have his valued help in carrying out the functions of the Club. Mr McGregor also referred to the pleasant manner in which the President carried out his duties at the race gather* ings and meetings of the committee. Moved by Mr Evans :— "That the resignation be accepted with reluctance and a vote of thanks be .recorded on the minute book to Mr Williams.” Mr Newman second. Carried. Mr Williams moved :—"That Mr J. J. Mclntosh Senr., be elected President.” Mr Sellers seconded. Carried. Resolved that all horses in every race at all meetings held by this Club during | the current racing year, which are owned by the same owner,* shall be bracketted on the Totalisator. From Same, notifying the unemployed tax must be deducted from all r.ding fees earned liy jockeys.—Received. From Sports Protection League reporting action taken during the year in the best -interest of the public.— Received and £2 2s subscription passed for payment. The report of the Conference of Racing and Trotting Clubs recently held at Greymouth was received.—Resolved question of standing starts be referred to the starter ard ask the member for the district to support the inauguration of the State Lottery in New Zealand. From 0. Fowler, Caretaker, offering to continue service at reduced wages till the financial position improves.—Received and thanked for offer. From Rimu Dredging Coy., Kanieri Electric Coy. and Sullivan Bros., Weheka, enclosing donations of £.2 2s each for the building fund.—-Received with thanks. ,v From H. N. Adamson, Matainui and Wm. Steel resignations as members of the Club.—Received and accepted with regret. The stakes for the Christmas meeting were fixed at £1250. The question of arrangements for the the booths was left in the hands of Messrs Mclntosh, Houston, McGregor and -Secretary to wait on Mr Nancekiveil to deal with. The meeting terminated kit 10, J 5 p.m.
