THE FAR EAST. One of the most remarkable features of this ominous and disquieting situation is the argument employed by the Japanese to justify their actions. The Chinese have frequently employed the trade boycott with success against Japan, and they have resorted to this weapon now. But the Japanese hold that the boycott really amounts to an act of war, and they therefore maintain that they may legitimately use military methods to combat it. —Auckland Star.
