United Press Association.—-By Electrw Telegraph.—Copyright.] VANCOUVER, October 15. “Every second hospital bed in the United States is occupied by a mental case, and there is an enormous number of people who are almost fit tor an asylum. The treatment of disease will, some day soon, become a confession of failure!” Thus spoke .Doctor Charles Mayo (the famous medical authority), lecturing at the Convention of the American College of Surgeons. He continued: —“Within reasonable limits, any community may determine its own death rate.” He proceeded to argue that the fast pace of living today was the chief cause of deaths these days. * “Life expectancy,” he added, “has moved up to filty-eight years, and it has halted there. Tli e causes of the greatest number of adult diseases are infectious and the emotions. Man cannot fear, hate, or worry intellectually. He does these tilings with all of his organs.”
