LEAVE FOR PICTURES

HEAD MASTER’S COMPLAINT. DISCUSSION BY COMMITTEE. ASHBURTON, October 14. At to-night’s meeting of the Borough School Committee, Mr A. Prentice brought up the question of leave granted to the children to attend pi”* ture shows. The head master said that children frequently brought notes from their parents asking for leave to go to the pictures but he had never given them permission,. On the occasion' referred to he had received so many requests that he had allowed the children to geti away from school five minutes earn ier than usual, Hut the time had been made up earlier in the day. He was strongly against children securing leave during school hours to utteim picture entertainments unless the programmes were of educational value. It was agreed to endorse the head master’s action in. refusing children leave from school to attend pictures unless in his opinion they were suitable for children.
