MISS KAY’S FEATS. ( By Telegraph —Ver Frees Association) ROTORUA, October IS. Tuesday was a day of successes for Miss 0. Kay, the New Zealand lady golf champion. In addition to breaicing the Rotorua course record of 73, in 71, and gaining the distinction of being the first lady player in, New Zealand to reduce the score from scratch, she also won the Donnelly Cup, a stroke handicap trophy, the ' Mellsopp Cup for the competitor returning the best aggregate scratch ! score over three rounds of stroke play, and a trophy for the best gross Ecore returned in connection with the Donnelly Chip competition. Playing a flawless round, which included three birdies jon the return, Miss Kay returned a ( card which read: Out —5,3, 3,4, 6,3, o, 4, 4—total 37 : imvard—s, 4,3, 3, 4,4, 4,3, 4—Total 34—71. She was a stroke under bogey at the third, tenth, fifteenth and eighteenh, and only over bogey at the first and ninth. Although she put up one of the outstanding performances in New Zealand golfing history, this was -the first occasion that her play was not followed by a large gallery, only three spectators witnessing the record round, She played without a mistake. Her putting was particularly outstanding, and she kept a remarkable length from the tees. The provincial teams match, pkyed during this afternoon, in conjunction with the Donnelly Cup, was won by Manawatu A with a gross score of 336, the winning teams being Misß Gaisford, Mrs E'. Cooke (Castlecliff), Mrs H. Cob linson (Manawatu), Mrs Russell Grace (Wanganui). Mrs Cooke returned the best gross score—B0 —thus bolding the Innes Cun for the year. Wellington A with a gross score of 349, were run-ners-pp. With 70 nett, Miss Kay won the Donnelly Cup 18 boles stroke handicap trophy, the runner-up being Miss F. Ratbbone, (Auckland) 81—8—73. Mrs K. S. Browne (Cambridge) 87—12—73 and Miss L. Dyer (Wellington) 88—13 —75, returned the best cards in the opposite division, players 11 to 18 handicap. Mrs Browne won the trophy in this division, taking her score over the last nine holes. Mellsopp Cup for the competitor returning the best aggregate scratch score in three rounds of stroke play was won by Miss Kay with a; gross score of 227. The scores making up the total were: ' Coronation medal match 78, L.G.U. Challenge Bowl 71.' The Donnelly Cup runner-up was Airs Guy Williams (Masterton) with a gross score of 245.
