SATURDAY’S GALE
SEVERE IX CANTERBURY. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 11. A nor-west gale blew over the Canterbury Plains on Saturday, and did widespread damage to the pine plant* ations, and also caused interruptions to the power and telephone lines. At. Darfield, where the worst rage of the gale wa- s left, it doomed advisable to tie dowfl wRh ropes the Memorial Hall, in which a flower show was being held, The power lines were interrupted in parts of Canterbury until . this afternoon, The storm reached Christchurch, hut only as a strong wind. The force of the gale was spent before reaching the. coast.
