RAILWAY QUESTION. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, October 9. It is learnt that Mr Lang is determined that the Railway Commissioners shall carry out his instruction to restore seniority to strikers of 1917. It seems that the Chief Commissioner formally notified the Government that the Commissioners had been advised that the minute cannot legally be carried out. The “Telegraph” says: Mr Cleary is considered to hold an absolutely impregnable position. He was appointed in 1929 for nine years, and cannot be removed except by resolution of both Houses of Parliament. The Premier’s prospect of getting such resolution through the Upper House, is regarded as hopeless. !

FINANCIAL POSITION. SYDNEY, October 9. For the three months of the present financial year, the State expenditure exceeded the revenue by £7,164,764. The revenue totalled £8,052,192, a net decrease of £586,105, the expenditure amounted to £15,216,956, an increase of £2,049,283, compared with tbe corresponding period last year. Included in this year’s expenditure, however, are interest payments which fell due last year. From six lotteries drawn, the payments .into the Consolidated , Revenue amounted to £69,650.
