LADIES’ GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP.

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association) ROTORUA, Octoiber 9. After commencement of piny had been postponed on Thursday on account of rain, the first round of the N.Z. Ladies’ Amateur Golf Championship was played this morning. The course is a little heavy through further rain overnight, but is drying off well. There is still water in the deeper hunkers and in hollows and fair_ ways.

An outstanding game this morning was the close call of Miss O. Kav, D'e N.Z. champion, in a game with Muss E. Culling, 3 up and 4. -Miss Kay had a narrow victory, 1 up. Miss Culling, who had been sinking remarkable single putts, including one of nearly thirty yards at the ninth hole, went to pieces through nervousness, at the critical stage of the game, her accuracy suffering. Miss Kay played a steady round throughout, doing 39 out and 37 home. Miss Culling also did a. fine round, out 35 and home 42. Mrs H. Collinson, former N.Z. champion, and an outstanding lady player in the Manawatu Chib, was decisively beaten by Mrs Guv Williams, 4 and 3. Both played a steady round, only striking serious trouble at tile ninth hole. Mrs Williams went the round in 78 and Mrs Collinson In 81. Mrs Williams won on her steadiness.

Mrs Oodley (Christchurch) hnd a close win over Mrj Foreman (Mirimnr) after two extra holes were required to decide the match. Mrs Foreman, after being dormie three, lost the succeeding holes to square at the 19th. The nineteenth was halved and Mrs Godle.v took the 20th hy the putt. Airs Heighten (Titirangi) had a run over victory with Miss limes (Manawatu), winning 6 and 4. Mrs Deighton held the lead all the way. but had had luck in the ninth, where her drive stuck in a hank, costing two ertra strokes. Most of the other matches were uneventful and victories were easy. The course is playing well and steadily improving with the line weath°r that has set in. Results—-Airs F. L. Young (Richmond Hill) heat Airs AJcKellop (Christchurch) 3 and 2. Airs E. Cooke (Castlediff) beat Airs G. A. Arthur (Hamilton) 7 and 6. Airs Day (Hamilton) heat Aliss O. Stevens (Pupukc) 7 and (J. Aliss O. Kay (Otago) beat Aliss ri. Cullings (Auckland) 1 up. Afiss M. Stevens (Pupuke) heat Miss N. McCormick (Auckland) 8 and 6. Airs M. Godley (Christchurch) heat Airs Foreman (Mirimar) 1 up at the 20th.

Airs AA r . Gower (Hamilton) beat Aliss S. Achoson (Nelson)' 4 and 3. All's Guv Williams (Alasterton) heat Mrs H, Collinson (Manawatu) 4 and 3. Mrs D. Wilson (Alirimad beat Aliss A. Grove (Mauiigakiekie) by default. Mrs Slew (Westport) beat Mrs G, Kingseote (Christchurch) 2 and 1, Airs Barnes Graham (Poverty Bay) beat Aliss F. Frothbone (Auckland) 6 and 5. Airs . Deighton (Titirangi) beat Alms N. Innes (Alanawatu) 6 and 4.
