Only the utmost effort and vigilance is enabling the Government to maintain the gold standard. Two more banks have closed. The Prussian Government has announced that full payment to the civil servants for the month due on October Ist is impossible. It is feared that Doctor Brueniug, the Chancellor's authority, wh'ch is the .chef safeguard against German economic chaos, is weakening. Hitler believes that bis hour ot destiny is about to strike.
