PRICE OF PETROL
UP 1D PER GALLON. CHRISTCHURCH, October 5. Although no official advice of an increase in the price of petrol has been received by local companies, it is expected tiiat an advance by probably cue penny per gallon will take place this week. The adverse exchu lge rate has had the effect of icreas.ng the landed cost by threepence per gallon. The. companies have not yet de-’ded what action they will take in regard to this increase, but it is considered certain that if there is any additional taxation it will be passed on to the public.
'those engaged in business fear the imposition of a further penny per gallon for ordinary revenue purnoses as distinct from the Main highways fund.
