SOUTH AFRICANS LEAVE FOR AUSTRALIA. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) CAPETOWN, October 2. The South African cricketers assembled here and were farewelled at a mayoral luncheon. They will sail at noon “to-morrow for Australia. The manager, Mr Tandy, said the team was young and as keen as mustard. “We have now won the rubber against the M.C.C. on a hard matting wicket,” he said. “The Australian wickets are a different proposition. We all feel that we are going to learn something, especially how to score on a plumb wicket, which will be profitable to the next team going to .England. We may not have a Grimmett, but our fielding will be a tremendous asset.”
Mr Cameron, the captain, said : “We are most anxious to see Australia’s wonderful land and to meet old cricketers whom we read about.
It is twenty- years since a South African team visited Australia.
