The Commonwealth Bank Board decided to make about £300,000 available to the local governing bodies for works that will absorb some of the unemployed. The sum of five million for relief of the unemployed, asked for by Mr iSfcullin is hot likely to bo granted. ,
SHIP’S DISTRESS SIGNAL. MELBOURNE, October 2. It is reported that a distress signal from an unknown vessel was seen off Wonthaggi late last night. A search proved successful. A passing steamer saw nothing unusual.
