BOROUGH COUNCIL. (Our Own Correspondent.) THURSDAY, OCTOBER IST. The fortnightly meeting of the Ross Borough Council took place on the above date. Present:—His Worship the Mayor (J. Murdoch Esq), Councillors, E. Whittle, R. Richards, K. O May, A. Thompson, P. Douglas, W. J. Blacklow, A. Hedwig, and J. Rea. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Secretary N.Z. Natives’ Association, Westport, forwarding circular of Constitution, inviting formaion of branch. —Received. From Borough of Rotorua and Municipal Association of New Zealand, re annual conference of Affiliated Local Bodies.—Received. The Finance Committee presented accounts to the amount of £134 os 6d which were passed for payment. The Treasurer’s report showed receipts £134 8s 2d, credit balance £215 8s 6d.—Received and approved. The Public Works Committee reported since Inst meeting a considerable amount of gorse and blackberries had been burned. Horse and„ dray had been employed several days removing spoil from streets ohd gravelling. Water works tunnel had been driven a fur? ther 25 feet—Received and approved. Gr, Hedwig reported some of the timber on old bridge crossing Donnelly’s Creek was being removed and moved the top portion of bridge be dismantled and any useful timber and iron work be brought to Borough yard. Seconded by Cr. May and carried. Cr, Rea suggested the Public Wonts Committee should meet more regula iy which was agreed to. The Committee to meet on Saturday afternoon and draw up a list of urgent works and submit to a special meeting of The Council to be held at 7 p.m. on Monday.

Mr M. Nolan waited on the Council and asked for use of one of the Borough Reserves for sluicing purposes. Agreed to allow use of Reserve free of charge for 3 months, the matter to be then further considered. 7 Mr Hamilton waited on the Council and asked for extension of his term of lease of Borough Reserve at Donoghues Resolved to extend term of lease for 10 years from present date.
