IGNORANCE OF LAW
FAILURE TO NOTIFY SUDDEN DEATH.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association)
STRATFORD, October 3
Ignorance on the part of a Maori named Mara Nui as to the law, notifying the police of the sudden death of his wife, led to the police not being advised until twenty-four hours late, although word had been sent to the relatives.
The woman was Hira Nui, who died suddenly at Ngatimaru on Wednesday. Rev. Hamilton was called to the house on Thursday and notified the police. At the inquest it was shown that deceased and her husband lived happily together, and the lack of notification was due to ignorance. After hearing evidence, the Coroner returned a verdict of death from natural causes.
