MINORITY problem
(British Official Wireless,)
RUGBY, October 1
Yesterday's discussions at the International Coal Conference, which representathives of Britain, France, Belgium, Poland, Holland and Czechoslovakia are attending, at- London, revealed a satisfactory agreement on fundamental principles underlying measures for meeting the economic position of the coal industry throughout Europe. A committee is to-day drafting a statement embodying the results of the discussions, which will be submitted to the employers’ organisations in the countries concerned. A further conference will be held later.
The Prime Minister this morning presided over a further meeting of the Minority Committee of the Indian Round Table Conference. After discussion, it was agreed to adjourn the Committee for a week, to permit all the Indian committees aind interests represented on the committee to meet informally in an endeavour to compose the present differences. The proposal was moved by Mr Gandhi, and was formally seconded by Mr Aga Khan. Mr Gandhi expressed the hope tnat in a week, it might be possible to report some sort of a settlement. Sir Muhammad Shaft said the proposal was that each group should select one or more representatives *o meet and see if, bv an exchange of ideas, it was possible to reach a satisfactory settlement, and thus lighten the burden which rested on the Minority Committee as a whole. The Prime Minister, who presided, said he hoped the adjournment would be fruitful of good results.
