MONSTER PROTEST PETITION.

LONDON, September 30,

In the House, of Commons, Mr \\’, r J. Brown, M.P., presented to the Speaker a petition bearing a half million signatures,' protesting against a reduction of the dole.

Lord Reading, moving- the second reading of the Economy Bill in the House of Lords, said.-that but for the emergency which existed, it would be indefensible to ask the House to pass the Bill, which was of an almost unprecedented diameter, and which gave the Government power to act by means of Orders-in-Council, which orders would have the effect of Acts of Parliament. The Budget, however, must be balanced. The House passed the second reading of the Bill by 67 votes to 8.
