BURIED PAYROLL
MORE MONEY FOUND. CBy Telegraph —Per Press Association) ROTORUA, October 1.
While probing the ground within a few yards of the spot where a large portion of the stolen Public Works’ payroll of' £2158 (burgled from /the office safe at Murupara camp on May 4th), was discovered by a Ma ori forestry worker. On September 4th two workmen on Wednesday afternoon felt a sharp instrument, with which they were probing, strike something hard. On examination they found this was a roll of notes of different denominations, and a further search revealed that a sum of approximately £4O was buried beneath. The money was buried loosely, with silver, notes and coppers all together. The find was immediately reported to Detective White, of Hamilton, and Constable Roberts of Rotorua, proceeded to Murupara to investiate.
The police are very reticent, hut rotate they are making enquiries. They refuse to disclose the amount of money that is still missing.
