Westland Acclimatisation and Tourist Society
THURSDAY, OCTOBER Ist. The Council of .the above Society sat at 7.30 p.m. Present : -Messrs J. J. Mclntosh (Vice-President), Jas. King, A. N. Baker, R. Paterson and J. Peake. An apology was tendered for absence of the President (Dr Teichelrnann). The minutes of previous meeting were confirmed. The outward correspondence was approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Postal Department, Wellington, forwarding £3l 10s for game licenses ■issued in Westland for past season.— 'Received.
From Department of Internal Affairs, advising there will be no objection to the recent position of protection ol deer for 1932.—Received. From 'Same, revoking sanctuaries in the Rotorua district and declaring certain areas under the Animals and Game Protection Act.—Received. From Same, advising receipt of application to stamp opossum skins and enquiring if the trapper was licensed. — Received • already attended to.
From Tourist Department stating Colonel Swayne, a veteran Somali hunter Would visit South Westland for stalking and asking that arrangements be made for him —Received and approved. From South Canterbury Society, enclosing names of persons convicted of offences under the Fisheries Act and Regulations.—Received and filed. From C. Hodgkinson reporting on the position as to culling operations in South Westland.—Received and resolved to accept offer and supply ammunition. From E. Tohill, Makarova, offering to undertake deer culling especially in the region of the Landsborough and Bourke Valleys.—Received; arrangements already made.
From Invercargill Society, notifying 50,000 ova despatched to local hatchery. —'Received.
From Otago Society, acknowledging receipt of cheque £62 19s 3d covering account for trout ova supplied.—Received.
From Dr L. G. Bell, Alatainui, applying for fishing license.—Received and issued.
It was reported that illegal shooting of pigeons was taking place in several portions of ’Westland, and after discussion a resolution was adopted, to ask the Sergeant of Police to prosecute any persons caught in possession of pigeons more especially around the KumaraChristchurch road and Main South road extension localities.
The meeting terminated at 8.20 with a vote of thanks to the Vice-President.
