UNREST IN THE SERVICE REPORTED.

AUCKLAND, September 3U. Thirteen men. who had been employed at the Otahuhu Railway Workshops for periods of 30 years and over were retired to-day. They came under the Government’s economy scheme, which X 3 authorised by Clause 14 of the No. 1 Finance Act. There is unrest in the. Service, .be* cause of the way in which the Act •has been administered, and one man paid this monring: “It is unjust and unfair to dismiss good workmen for no apparent reason. It is our contention that the pruning-knife should be applied to the top and not at the roots of the Service. What is going to happen I can’t tell; hut y°n can take it from me that there is unrest- in

the Service, and the men are full of apprehension. No one knows who will ho the next.”
