THE RAILWAYS. (Australian Press Association.) SYDNEY, September 30. The tension between the State Government .and the Railway Commissioner is apparently more acute since the passage of the Transport Act, and a number of the Commissioner s administrative decisions have been countered by the Cabinet. The latest instance was the determination by the Commissioner to replace a number of adult clerks doing the work of juniors, with juniors, this was countermanded by Mr Lang, as the result of representations by union officials.
N.S.W. LEGISLATION.
SYDNEY, September 30.
The Government’s proposals to increase the rate of fami-y endowment tax mid to make it applicable to all employers, whether they operate under the Federal or State awards ,passed all stages in the Assembly. Mr Lang, in Parliament, foreshadowed a dozen measures which lie desired to have passed at one sitting, to enable the House to go into recess.
Opposition members protested against the rush of legislation. The Legislative Council refused to proceed with the programme outlined by the Vice-President. This Chamber refused to sit again all night, as the Assembly is doing.
