FATAL BURNS
AN INQUEST VERDICT. (By Telegraph —ter Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 21. 'Living alone' in a whare at Akatawara, John Neil Anderson, a. labourer, aged 48, received fatal burns as a result of his shirt catching fire early in the morning of September 18th. 'Surprised at his non-appearance that morning, some friends who lived a short distance aftvay visited his whare and found hiip with his face and arms severely hurnt. He was removed to the hospital but died there on September 21st.
At the inquest Doctor Collier said when Anderson was admitted to the hospital he told her he had woke up feeling cold and had lit a big fire in the open fire place to warm himself. Deceased said he then went to sleep on the floor and soon afterwards woke to find his shirt on fire. As be was unable to get it off he had to roll on the floor until the flames were smothered.
‘ The Coroner returned a verdict that death was the result of accidental burns.
