THE AUCKLAND SCHOOL. RECOGNITION BY INSTITUTE. AUCKLAND 1 , September 21. The Seliol of Architecture at Auckland University College. Inis been granted the full recognition of B.itish a*chi. teds. In a letter received at a meeting of the College Council the secretary of tile British In. t'i'tiife advised that the college’s thiee-yeaA full time, day course shall entitle exemption from the R.1.8.A. intermediate examination and that tlie' live-Viar comse leading to tile degree of Bachelor of Ai chi tec ure shall entitle exemption from the institute’s final examination. The school has obtained this highly-coveted distinction in til© minimum period within which the required conditions could be fulfilled, and remarkably scon after its foundation. Graduates will now be entitled to undertake post-graduate study, if they desire, at any other recognised school without previous examination. 1 The only Australian, school so far recognised is that at Sydney University. “This recognition will be far-reaching in its general effect upon the work ofthe school,” said Professor Knight m a report presented to the council. “It means world recognition of our architectural education, as the R.1.8.R. final examination -is accepted throughout the British Empire, the United States and most European countries as a- satisfactory qualication for the practice of architecture. I have received a letter stating that the Beard of Architectural Education of the R.1.8.A. was highly Impressed with the standard of the work of the school, , It will now be necessary for Auckland j University College to appoint two oxlaminers to represent the R.1.8.A. at the adjudication of studio work, and it will also he necessary to send annually to London examples of the students’ work. These drawings will be hung in competition with other recognised schorls. The R.1.8.A. awards each vear a medal for the best set of drawings submitted. It is anticipated that much benefit will be derived from Ibis competition with the foremost Eng. lish schools.” wmmmmmmammmmmmmmKm
