New Zeailandls first trial cf summer time was made in 1927-28, when, for the period between thj first Sunday in ■November and ..the. first Sunday m •March, the clock was an .rjhpur in advance of standard time. The’ experiment met generally with the approval of the townspeople, but in the country districts there was considerable opposition, though it was freely, asserted by the .supporters of the experiment that, independently of the Act, activities in the country were regulated, by the sun rather than the clock. The,.opposition of the country people was so definitely expressed, however, that in the following year, 1928-29, the difference between summer time and standard,; time was reduced to half an hour.

By the Summer • Time .'Act, 1929, y the period of summer time was, fixed as the period between the second . Sunclay in October and the third Sunday, of the following ; .during that period the' cloqk .is to,, be thirty- tmnutes in advance of standard titne : The noteworthy feature of,/the 1929 Aot 'is that it definitely established an annual summer, time period., Any,, changes are likely to affect only, the duration of summer time, or the extent of the difference between summer time and standard time.
