ASHBURTON R.C. MEETING. A RIDER KILLED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association ) ASHBURTON, September 19. For the Ashburton Racing Club’s spring meeting there was a. fair attendance, with good weather, and the track was in first class order. The tote took £6.385-}, against £9,720 for eight events last year. The meeting was marred by an accident in the Spring Handicap, resulting; in tiie death of R. Henshaw, 18, of Christchurch, the rider of Arch Arrow. . His mount stumbled and ieli in a bunch of horses, throwing N. J. Dwyer, rider of Ravine. Henshaw was trampled on by a horse on top ot the skull, his head being shockingly cnished, and he died on the way to the | hospital. Dwyer escaped with cuts and bruises.

Mr Cornelius Vanderbilt- Whitney’s two-year filly “Top Flight.” won the Futurity Stakes, the ric'-est race in America, and has thereby earned 94,780 dollars.
