OBITUARY
OLD BOXING CHAMPION. NEW YORK, September 17. A message from Louisville (Kentucky); states that Marvin Hart, aged fifty-five, claimant of the heavy-weight championship of the world in 1905, died to-day "of high blood pressure and complications, which had made him almost helpless since December. In 1905 Janies J. Jeffries, who had been world’s boxing champion since 1899, retired, and Marvin Hart fought Jack Root for the title on July 3. The fight was held at Reno, Nevada, and Jeffries,, who refereed, personally presented the title to the winner. Hart knocked out Root in the twelfth round. Jack O’Brien also claimed the title, but it was given to Hart. The next year, 1906, saw the arrival of Ithe (famous Tommy Burns. He knocked out Hart in a twenty-round fight at Los Angeles, and the next year beat Jack O’Brien.
