The “Observer’s” city editor says:— Yesterday week’s substantial gold withdrawals for Amsterdam is by no means a flight of the pound but the Dutch •bankers attempt to extricate themselves from the serious position due to troubles in Germany and Austria.

GENEVA, Septehiber 20. There was a breeze in the, Economic Committee when a German posse, referring to tho Swiss intention to protect her markets against Germany, declared Switzerland would rue an attempt to upset the European economic system. Germany was desperate with more than four million unemployment and would enforce reprisals against Swiss, trade. Strucki retorted that Switzerland is being swamped with, foreign goods, Germany intensifying her exports in order ..to - discharge war debts. .-Switzerland was not responsible fob the war and should not suffer for it.
