An appeal by the Victoria Laundry Company Limited against .recent judgment ordering *rfc to "pay £1147 to ‘Si? Kenneth Douglas, for injuries sus■tiiinod through being knocked down by one of the Company’s delivery vans at the comer of Biddiford and Constable streets on July 28, 1930, was d:smissed by Justice Blair and Justice MacGregor, in the Supreme Court, Justice MacGregor granted a stay ot proceedings for 14 days, subject to the condition that i? an appeal is lodged it must come on at the present sitting. UNDISCHARGED BANKRUPT. PALMERSTON NORTH, Sept. 18. Alfred oJardingham Rushbrook, a builder, formerly at Palmerston North, and now at 'Napier, was sentenced by Justices to six months’ imprisonment on each of six charges of obtaining credit without disclosing that he was an undischarged Bankrupt, the sentences to be concurrent. Accused pleadtd guilty and elected to be dealt with summarily, i't was stated by the prosecution that accused went bankrupt at Dannevuke in 1925. The sums concerned in the present charges aggregated £1520, the amounts being incurred in connection with building contracts. . T SENTENCED TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT. WELLINGTON, September 18. A Chinese resident of Samoa, Chiu Rung was recently convicted of murder at Apia. The sentence has been reviewed by the Governor-General of Kew Zealand, and on the advice ot the Executive Council has deeded to commute the sentence to imprisonment for life.
