THE CAUSE OF HIGH PRICES

(United Press Association.—By Electric

Telegraph.—Copyright.)

LONDON, September 16.

..In. the course of his speech in the 'House of Commons, Mr Winston Churchill said that thue was nothing wrong with the gold standard, except that two-thirds of ihe gold of ' the world was imprisoned in Paris and, in -.New York. This scarcity of gold brought the dearness of gold, which, in turn, had brought the falls in the price levels. Mr Churchill said : Our position was not so weak as would be supposed. The United States might yet reach one thousand millions with' her.' gold holding, but. at the same time, she might have* from twelve to fourteen mdlions of her people unemployed.. He hoped that a conference' such as lie had suggested would administer the final quietus to the payment oT the war debts and the reparations.
