TUNNEL WORKERS PAID OFF
TAWA FLAT GANGS. WELLINGTON, September 15. The Public Works Department has been obliged to dispense with about fifty workers from the Tawa Flat tunnel'owing to the completion of the advance headings. It is understood that the other tunnellei's made a suggestion for running an extra shift, with the object of. absorbing the men whosy work bad been completed, but as operations already are going on throughout the whole twenty-four boms this proposal could not be adopted.
