A remark bv Mr- Cornwell that the wage reduction order of the Con it had not resulted in a /reduction’ of-.the: cost to the public, drew a reply from Judge Fraser to-day in the Arbitration Court that the intention was to have a general:, reduction in costs I 'of production. '-'The Court, His Honour said desired and expected business people to pass on that reduction to consumers. We do expect and hope that the costs of production and other inc.dcntal costs will he reduced.
His Honour also said there was no doubt the price of manufactured goods was out of step altogether with the price of primary produce and he had to admit it took some time for the| price of manufacture to come down but things had got to come, and he thought more quickly than it had vet, and till it does we shall not he in a healthy condition economically.
