JOCKEYS’ RECORDS

ENGLISH COMPARISONS WITH HECTOR GRAY. 1 LONDON, August 7. The “Daily Mail” of August 6th, gave the following information interesting to racing enthusiasts, headed “Other Jockeys” : New Zealand seems quite elated that Hector Gray, who rode for Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owen in this country in 192x--22, should create a record by riding 106 winners in a season. Gray is over 40. But we are not without our jockeys of forty years and more. Childs, Donoghue, Fox, and Carslake are still in the leading ranks, and they are as old as Gray. Fox was champion jockey last season, and he rode Yentoi to win the Cesarew'itch in 1608. Dorfoghue was up on Christmas Daisy when the Cambridgeshire was won for the second year in 1910. ‘ Of our other hading jockeys, T. Weston and H. Wragg were born in 1902 • Gordon Richards m 1904, the same year as R. Jones; and Beary was riding in Ireland in 1914. In the past our leading jockeys had to give up because of weight and not age. Now that weights are on a Ingnei scale we shall find the senior jockeys remaining in the saddle and maintaining leadership through ability.
