RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting Company of N.Z. Ltd.) THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10th. The IYA programme this evening will be given by the Auckland Society of Musicians. Instrumental items will be given by a trio consisting of Misses Jean Allen, Marjorie Tiarks and Margot St. Lawrence Toner, and by Miss Gladys Searell, the well known artistic piano player. Mr Barry Coney, baritone, will sing several solos and, with Mr Len Barnes, a duet. Other vocalists will be Miss Freda Evans and Miss Margaret ißeilly. Mr A. B. Chappel, M.A., will give a Topical Talk.
2YA will relay from the Blue Triangle Hall a concert to be given by the Orpheus Musical Society, under the direction of Mr Harison Cook. This will take the form of the presentation of two smal cantatas “Tubalkain” (by Dunhill) and ‘'The Coffee Cantata” (by Bach). The soloists will be Miss Jeanette Briggs (soprano), Mr ‘Ray Kemp (baritone) and Mr <Roy Hill (tenor). Instrumental, solos will be given by Mr Claude Tanner (’cellist). The lecturer for the International Programme at 3YA will be Mr L. R. R. Denny, M.A., F.R.H.S., T Christchurch Technical College. He will speak on "Java,” where he spent some time last year. Silent day at 4YA. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th. Included in lYA’s studio programme this evening, will be ‘‘Lee Fore Brace,’’ teller of sea stories. He talks on "The Limbo of Lost Ships” this evening. The IYA Orchestra will play . several selections, including the overture “Peter Sthmoll,” “A Lover in DifVnascus,” and • the suite “Three Famous Pictures.” There will be pianoforte solos by Mi Cyril Towsey. The vocalists will be Miss Aimee Clapham (contralto) and Mi Reg. Morgan (baritone). 2YA’s programme will be devoted to the relay from the Victoria University College of a debate by the Victoria University College Debating Society entitled “That this female freedom is a farcipal failure.” Miss -Nancy Bishop, a well known tshburton singer and reciter, will make her debut at 3YA this evening as a singer. Baritone songs will be contributed by Mr Chas. Dewhurst, old favourites being sung. Humour will be provided by the Two Chatterboxes. Mr S. G. Hoskins, pianist,, vffill play two p eees, one of Chopin’s and one of his own compositions, “Thoughts.’’ The studio Octet will present a bright prorramme. During the evening Mr EIveagh Lord, will deliver one of, his series of talks on “The Story of the Golden Coast.” On this occasion he will deal with Kumara and 'Richard John Seddon.
Captain H. M. McKay, who, with Lieutenant White recently achieved a very fine performance by flying to the -Haa.st and back over the Alps to Dunedin, will give a talk from 4YA on “Aerial Exploration in the Southern Alps.”
The ever-popular Dagg’s 'Band will be with 4YA listeners once .again this evening. Assisted by the Select Four and Mr Bert Rawlinson they will present lan old-kime programme entitled “Songs of Other Days.”
