SCHNEIDER CUP
FURTHER COMMENT.
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, September 5
There is great regret At Calshot among the flying men, and indeed rn all quarters, at the withdrawal of the - French and Italians from the Schneider Trophy race on September 12th. The regret is mingled witn a certain amount of surprise. Both countries which have had so much longer to organise their entries for the contest than the British, whose decision to take part was reached at a late stage, should hve found themselves sufficiently prepared. All teams experienced bad luck and serious misfortune during the testing and training period, and the British have had their full share of these difficulties.
France and Italy each forfeit a sum of £4500 as a condition of their entry, but this will represent a very small contribution to the heavy expense to which the Royal Aero Club and the Air Ministry were put. When the British entry has flown over the course, the trophy, will become the property of the Royal Aero Club, as this will be the third British Victory in succession. The victorious seaplane is expected to set up a new record for the course considerably in excess of last year's figure of 328 miles an hour. All arrangements are complete for accommodating a vast concourse of spectators.
