BOROUCH COUNCIL MEETING. (Our Own Correspondent.) The forth:igh’t!.y meeting 'of the do unci took place last Thursday evenng. Present- tlis Worship the Mayor (J. Murdoch Esq.), Councillors J. Chapman an others ipplied for p rmission to lower the sills of a bridge on the Beach road to enalbe them to deepen a drain.—Re(uest granted. ■ \ Main Highways Council notified subsidy on expenditure cn Main Highway passing through Ross would he increased from £2 out of £3 to ■£3 out of £4. From Unemployed Commissioner, Wellington, stating Local Bodies expending money under relief schemes should s ee there is ,adequate supervision over workers add that the funds are not wasted. From abtiiig District Traffic Maiiag 3 er regretting that the, prospective increase in traffic is uhsufficiettt to Wni'» rant a direct through service between Christchurch and Ross on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays as desired. The Mayor reported attending meeting of Local Rodies r.presentafives at Greymouth, re allocation of Heavy Traffic fees, stating he had endeavoured to have the quota for Ross Borough brought up to £IOO. The Council thought the proportion previously received per cent, was satisfactoy, the Local, Bodies .coilcened to be notified accordingly. - A vote of thanks was passed, to the .Mayor for his attendance at the meeting. R. J. Scott wrote asking that, fence on reserve leased by him be put on proper boundary. Referred to Reserves Committee for report. The Finance Committee presented accounts to the amount of £162 which were passed for payment. The statement showed receipts £140; credit balance £210.'. A deputation (Messr s J. Allan and J. Holmes) representing Ross Prospecting Association waited on ’(the Council and asked that 2 men be emnloved under N<x 5 Scheme to cut tracks on the hills behind Ross to aid prospectors in their search for gold.— Request acceded to.
