The ship ‘•Burgenland’s” passengers were transferred to the ‘-Baikal Maru” and tile ‘‘Burgenland” is proceeding to Nagasaka under her own steam for repairs. JAP EXPLOSION TRAGEDY. •KOBE, September 5. The Yokohama harbour naval transport, “Notoro," this morning was the scene of a petroleum explosion in which thirty bluejackets were seriously injured. Four have not been found. DUBLIN GROWN JEWELS. OFFERED BACK BY THIEVES. . DUBLIN, September 6. The authorities have been /informed that the Crown Jewels, which were valued at fifty thousand pounds, and which were stolen from Dublin Castle in the year 1907, on the eve of King Edward and Queen Alexandra’s visit to attend the International Exhibition at Dublin, will be returned for a heavy ransom. The jewels are reported to be intact and they are either in England or on the 'Continent. The thieves are willing to restore them if their own protection 'is guaranteed.
MOTOR CYCLING. LONDON, September 5. Stanley Woods set a new lap record of 89.67 miles per hour when winning, tlm 000 o.e. cycle class race, the Ulster Grand Prix. His average speed was 86.43 miles an hour. E. Knott was second, and P. Hunt third. At Manchester, in the presence of forty thousand people, Engand won the speedway “ashes,” defeating Australia by 52 points to 41. Only the Englishman, Jack Parker, secured the maximum points. A STRIKE SETTLED. OSLO, September 6. The paper industry lock-out litre has been settled, after three months’ stoppage. Work is being resumed immediately.
