AID TO BUSINESSS, COTTON TRADES POLICY. WELLINGTON/ August 29. . In talking, about the value of advertising and publicity . in its various forms as an aid to the sale of goods, Mr L. A. Paish, 0.8.E'. his Majesty’s Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, speaking at tire Wellington Advertising Club’s -luncheon, said that in; times of depression business firms were inclined to cut down their advertisilng appropriation. The cotton trade, he said, was a very large trade, and suffering very badly. In 1929 ten million yards of cotton clothing was exported from England every day. Saturdays and Sundays included. Last year one-third of the trade had been lost, so that the position was pretty bad in Lancashire, but in spite of the fact that the cotton industry in Lancashire was suffering grealy from the effects of a very severe depression the trade intended to increase its advertising appropriation and conduct its advertising on entirely new -lines. (Applause). Mr Paish said that a really fine textile exhibition was expected at the British Industries Fair in February, 1932, and he Imped that one of the results of the exhibition would be a feiv more orders to relieve the depression in the industry.
