BURMA RISING
OFFICIAL REPORT. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) RUGBY, August 31. The India Office has issued a statement on Burma, covering the last week. It says :—“The situation continues to improve satisfactorily on the, whole. In the. Tliaetniyo district the surrenders now amount t0'1476 including three important, leaders, who are on the list of those who are excluded ron the amnesty. Surrenders in other districts continue, and the total is now 4671. No serious engagements between the Government forces and the rebels have occurred during the week. Saya Shun, the organiser of the Tharrawaddy Rebellion, has been convicted and wag sentenced to death by a special, tribunal at Tharrawaddy on the 28th of August. The Irawaddy River, in lower Burma, is falling, and it is hoped that the danger of serious breaches of the embank ments has passed.
