AVIATION

WOMAN FLYER. A NEW ZEALANDER. i United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at 10 a.m.) LONDON, September 1. The New Zealander,- Mrs H. B. Hewlett, the pioneer aviatrix who be.ore the war taught flying to her son (now in command of the R.A.F. Base at Fyfe) intends to fly from London to Batavia, starting to-morrow and then sailing to Sydney and New Zealand. “L want to wake up Australians and New Zealanders to the importance of speedy communication with Europe. I consider it is best to do so by a practical example. It is heartbreaking that I cannot fly the extra five hundred, miles front Sourabava to Darwin. I would move heaven and earth to do so, but am told it is impossible. Australians ought to realise that Europe is literacy knocking at their door. I hope to be able to convince Australians of the urgency of linking up with Dutch airways.”
