New Zealand cricketers continued against Sussex in fine weather. Tate and Corn ford made a fine stand, despite numerous howling changes, until Corn'ord was howled in attempting to liit Merritt. BRIGHTON, August 31. ; Sussex batsmen held a complete mastery of the New Zealand attack. After passing the century, Tate hit more freely, but lost Bowley shortly after lunch, Rowley deflecting a catch to Talbot at m id-on. Tate went out to a fine catch by James. (He batted for two hundred minutes and hit three sixes and fourteen fours. It was an excellent display of clean powerful hitting, although dropped twice in the slips off Cromb before he was fifty. 249 for 4. Duleepsinhji and Cook added 139 before the latter wks brilliantly caught by James on the leg side. Duleepsinhji gave a dazzling exhibition of batting artistry for two hours. He hit ten fours.
