Awakened Oy a burgiar alarm at twelve thirty this morning, Robert William Wilson, Postmaster, and storekeeper at \i in, hastny aroused his son and rusiied towards tile store, fin.} yards away. Tliey saw three lnen running across a paddock. A\ ilson and his son ran down tne road to intercept them, end then they came upon a stationary car, the driver of winch was appaientiy Doing field up by another man brandishing a revolver. Wilson says he was ordered to put his hands up. Then the driver ul tne car was iorced, at the revolver point, to get back into the car. Wilson attempted to take the number, but lie was again threatened by the revolver, and two shots were fired. The men then drove aw'ay in the direction of Auckland. A detective was summoned, and he found the Post Office door had been forced, but nothing was stolen. He could find no revolver shells.
The police are continuing their investigation to-flay. FOUR ARRESTS MAUL. AUCKLAND, August" 29. In connection with the Wiri hold* up, four men were arrested by detectives last night, after an all-day search. The police have also commandeered the motor car, which it is alleged, the men used, and the revolver. / TWO BURGLARIES. AT DUNEDIN STORES. DUNEDIN, August 30. Two business) places were entered by burglars on Saturday night, one being the Bing Harris warehouse, in High Street, which was entered through a back window, and the other was Cleary’s Otago Bottle Store, in Hanover Street, where an unlocked office door gave easy access' 'to the intruders. It has not yet been ascertained Whether anything was stolen from the warehouse. Five pounds in money was removed from Cleary’s office.
