RADIO PROGRAMME
(Supplied by the Radio Broadcasting . Company of N.Z. Ltd.) MONDAY, AUGUST, 31st. The wrestling match—Lunch v. Bur.esch—will be broadcast by IYA this evening. At 2YA, Mr George Ellwood will give a ’cello recital—“ Lighter Moods of Classical Composers.” His programme will include gems by Dvorak, Elgar, Van Goens, Popper and Fischer. Miss Hilda Chudley (contralto), Miss Mary McKeowen (mezzo-sonprano) and Mr D. L. ■lrwin (lyric tenor) will sing. Mr Sydney ‘‘Glimpses of Modern Composers.” The Orchestrina, under Signor A. P. Truda, will play Boccherini’s “Celebrated Minuet,” Schumann’s “Reverie” and one .of Chopin’s waltzes. A “Rangiora Night’’ will be the programme from 3YA. A concert party of the leading vocal talent of the town, an Hawaiian Orchestra, and a first class brass band will give a concert in the Studio. During the evening Mr W. A. Rowse, Mayor of Rangiora, will speak on “Town Life in the Country. Th« singers will include Miss Thelma 'Ay»es (aopi«no), Miss £. Cassidy (soprano), Mr Geo. March (baritone), Mr I]. D. R. Smith (baritone) and Mr G. D. Blake (bass). Mr J. Hail cox will play two violin solos and Mr 0. J. Smith will be the humorist for the evening. ,
The speaker for Ithe International Programme at 4YA will be Mr hi wood, Secretary of the Otago Importers and Shippers Association. He will speak on “The Development of 'lnternational Trading at Sea.”
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER Ist. . The speaker on the IYA International Programme this evening, will be Mr Norman Heath, Consul for Latvia, his subject being “Latvia.” 2YA’s programme from the studio will be of the popular type. Specially | featured will be Miss Merle Miller, m*zzo-soprano, of Christchurch. The remaining portion of the vocal items , will be given by the Lyric Quartet, who will be heard in quartettes, duets and solos. Messrs Bertliold and Bent, guitar duo, will delight listeners with populai numbers. The Salon Orchestra, undei Mr M. T.'. Dixon, will play selection of “Guy d’ Hardelot’s Songs,” “Pale Moon,” and “Pale Moon” arranged as a dance novelty- by Black, the selection “A Girl from Brazil” and the latest dance novelties. Plantation sOngs will be featured on 4YA’s programme by The Majors Quartet. Solos will be sung by members of the party—Miss Freda Elmes, Miss G. Burt and Mr E. Vv. Robbins, while humorous numbers will be contributed Mr W. B. Lambert, who is an acquisi- . on to the raiiKS or -A -a humorists. 1 he Ivaikorai Band will give another of its popular concerts. Of the items to be given by the Band, the selection, A sailor’s Life,” depicts, in musical form,j a sailor’s life at sea, and contains such beautiful melodies as the well known hymn, “Fierce Raged the Tempest.” Silent day at 3YA.
