COUPON TRADING
'J’HE BILL OPPOSED
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association)
WELLINGTON, August 27,
Further strong ojection to the Trading Coupons Bill being passed by the House of Representatives 'in its present form is contained in a petition signed by twelve large wholesale firms of Dunedin, which was presented to the House last evening by Mr Ansell. The petitioners state that they regard the Bill as being inadequate. Not only does it fail t° cover the present pernicious system of giving bonuses, presents or gifts in exchange for coupons, stamps, or wrappers, but it actually encourages traders to devise new means, of which there is already ample evidence, of distributing bonuses,- presents-, or gifts, with their
goods. v In view of the fact that the Trading Coupons Bill of 1908 was found to be ineffective,* the petitioners urge that the present Bill be redrafted, so as to make illegal the ,whole pernicious system of distributing bonuses, presents, gifts or bribes, either large or small, with the package of the main product sold.
