THEFT OF CAR

AN ARREST IN RIVER. (By Telegraph —Per Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, August 28. A chase in which the parties were a constable and two young criminals had a cold ending last night with the arrest of one of the offenders in the middle of the river Avon. The story was told in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Alfred Leonard Sliecdy 18, and Mervvn John Ellis 17, both labourers, were charged with converting to their own use a eai of a; value of £350, the property of Abster Yqung. They pleaded guilty and were remanded for a week for further inquiries. The police said the youths had been seen trying to start a eai and fled when the police arrived, Sheedy jumping into the river.
